So on January 13, Dapp Records closed its cyber doors. Our reason for this is our lack of progress as a business. Most common knowledge for any business is to generate a profit in order to grow. Well, for us that never happen. We though "street cred" and the DIY attitude would make a difference. But start up imprints simple need money to stay afloat. Whether it was unfinished projects or lack of huge buzz, there is indeed plenty of reasons why this didn't work. But shit happens and we move on, which is a good thing. Now that my focus isn't on worrying about a business that never happen. I can now direct my energy to my own projects. So be on the lookout for more music and production from DaRon as well as re-edits and remixes of varies music, you know producer stuff! I hope all of you stay connected with me as fans and continue to support. Sorry to all the djs that were promised vinyl and promo music I know it was bad business. As a parting gift all of Dapp Records will be free for download( dapprecords.bandcamp.com) until the end of the week. Some music you may never hear again so get it now. Over the next couple of weeks I will be reconfiguring some of the webpages with music on them (bandcamp,soundclound, etc.) so hang tight with me for a while.

Yes it's been a minute since we last talked, but I was thinking about you the whole time. Anyways we've been working hard at doing what we do to be better at what we are, so lets talk about it. First up is vocalist/rapper Yonni with her debut ep self titled. "Yonni" is a chilled five-song intro into this young vocalist gifted ability for songwriting. From lost love to lost without your love. Yonni covers it all, a throw back to the Lauren Hill style( great lyrical content as a rapper or singer), which seems to be a dying art at the hands of massive whackness in music. These week's free download is a revisit of Soul Beats Vol.2. Why? You ask, well I felt like the project deserved a little bit more time to shine. And also Soul Beats is a very important part of Dapp. These beat tapes are taken from our growing sample/loop library. Some tracks are created with actual instruments some are samples. This beats are often used not only as a exercise in creative expression but a mental note on how we develop our sound at Dapp. I hope that made sense, if not that's OK..its just music. OK welcome to 2011 glad everybody made it through rockets weren't fired at us and nobody turned to stone. So with that being said lets get to it. I recorded a mix for Monday Jazz it's called "My Soul Is Your Girl's Soul Best Friend". Its a pre Valentine Day mix for all the lovers out there. I believe the air date will be Feb.7th. I'm working on some new tracks for a new Slow Drag Travelers album. I finished the mix on a demo track early so everybody can take a listen to it. Its called "Little Warrior". Its cold in D.C. but the music at Dapp is warm. So lets get to the business, "The Road Less Traveled" is Slow Drag Travelers first instrumental Ep. Eight songs that push boundary of 4/4 time in a good way. We've also been working hard on some remixes and a new record. Expect more instrumental projects from PBNuF,DaRon+Soul Beats, and some comp albums with unreleased music. Also as we push along with Dapp I've been reconnecting with my jazz roots lately. The bases of all our music and production starts with some elements of jazz. So expect some jazz inspired records in 2011 for sure. Its been a minute since we last had a rap session. First thanks to everybody that downloaded on Free music Tues. We love you madly, something about free stuff brings folks together. Ok let me stop with the b.s. and get down to business I have some good stuff to talk about. Be on the lookout for some new projects. Coming up first is yours truly contributing to the 21st century soul movement with my new Ep-Spaceships and Sneakers. Now some of you may already have a version of this before. Spaceships and Sneakers was originally released in late 2008 but didn't see the light of day but for a few D.J.s and bloggers. As well as downloading issues with a certain file share service(can't tell you who) stopped our forward progress. Needless to say we shelved it and moved on until recently with free music Tues. we brought back some of those tracks. Now along with some fresh new tracks and new album art we give it to you for free via bandcamp.com on Sept.7th. Also set for release on Tokyo Dawn Records is "Heart". A compilation of gifted artist focusing on affairs of the heart. Slow Drag Traveler's "Feel" was lucky enough to be a part of this project. Soul Beats and podcast

Soul Beats started out as a beat tape that I shared with different artist I networked with more then 2 years ago. In the summer of 2007 I released Soul Beats as a free download. People dug it and was downloaded about 500 times and was featured on underground mix shows like burntprogress and the Beatt-Apes. So I decided to do a second volume. So like any other artist struggling to get there work heard I created a podcast call "Dapp Radio". Shows consist of different projects I produced so check out podcast#3 of me performing Soul Beats as a live set. Its short and a couple of the beats are from the second volume. Yours truly plays all keys and electronics on the set.

Somebody asked the other day was the track "Roserio" named after Roserio Dawson." Of course it was" I said like this person didn't know I've had a "mild" crush on Roserio Dawson for a while now. And really I'm not that kind of dude to admit that I have a crush on anybody let alone movie stars and such as well as sounding like some little school girl crushing over them twilight dudes. But Roserio Dawson is a special case. Shes a regular women or "real" is the term that needs to be said. Now to me real means she has something interesting to say. She looks like she has a sense of humor and doesn't take her self to seriously. But once again I don't know her I just know what I see and thats good enough. Maybe its because Roserio stated at times that she has dated regular dudes and to me thats to be admired. Someone that looks like that can certainly get any guy she chooses but respects were she comes from and respects the average dude delivering your package or the cat coming to install your cable. All in all shes fly and thats what it comes down too. Maybe one day she'll hear "Roserio" and smile.

2009 is over, it was a great year but a good bye is in order...so peace! Now whats in store for 2010 you ask? Music. New artist new projects new endeavours. Introducing vocalist/songwriter Yonni, based in the Washington D.C. area Yonni studied voice in her early school years as well as in college. Yonni's dusty vocals are a different take on modern day soul. You won't find any out of control weaves or scandalest clothing falling off of Yonni, nor the "Diva" attitude to match. Just Yonni's real life lyrics and her story telling skills. Its really all you need to enjoy her music.

Back in late 2007 I released a project call Slow Drag Travelers. A mixture of electro drum patterns and fuzzy synth pads driven by heart felt vocals. Slow Drag Travelers-Ep was released as a free download through Dapp Records. The Ep was received with great reviews and a small fan based was created. Connections were made in the "industry" and S.D.T was on its way to gaining some considerable buzz. And then the recession hit! Record labels closed, distribution companies went belly-up everybody paniced and jumped ship taking along all of S.D.T's buzz and promise of a huge future. Well needless to say S.D.T was shelved until I started getting emails and annoyed texts from folks as to why they can't download the Slow Drag Travelers-Ep. So after a couple hundred redownloads the fans of this music have brought back the full album release. Scheduled for early spring stay tuned for news on this new music emerging from Dapp Records.

Meshell Ndegeocello dropped her new album "Devil's Halo" this week. Much of my own musical sensibility comes from listening to Meshell records for years. I'm a die hard fan and would buy anything she put out. The album is filled with emo-heavy dub stabs, lyrics about loneliness and heartbreak that couldn't possibly hurt any more. Soundscapes that feel like your best dream. Once again Meshell pushes the boundaries outward for us to follow.

New music on the way from a couple of talented artist as Dapp goes global!!! First up is France-based producer,vocalist, Lanote. Lanote creates soundscapes that if you imagine seeing them would go on,on for miles. Her music is on the forefront of new ideas being created by artist around the world. France is definitely establishing its country as a global stop for new music. Thats why were excited to have her produce for us. Next is Nigel One a seasoned DJ and producer thats been grinding in the south(USA) for 10 years. Nigels has remixed tracks for DJ Miles Bonny and Canadian vocalist Amenta. We couldn't wait to get Nigel working with Dapp be on the look out for future projects and production.

Thanks to all the DJs that's played our music in the past year. I especially would like to thank our UK DJ brethren and sisters for there support. To often here in the states if an indie artist isn't tagged to a recognizable name then that artist may not get airplay. It seems to me that in the UK their perception of the indie artist is more open minded. This allows them to feature artist that you may never hear about(like us!!) Thanks to MikeyFuturistic and his podcast for playing our music I'll get there links together so we can connect them to our blog. Also my debut Ep will be out in late March. I have other releases just under different names and projects. As much as I'd rather be producing and working with other artist. Hey wanted to hit up folks on releases and things going on for Dapp Records. Some things I'm pretty geeked about so....Slow Drag Travelers full album will be out in Feb. we made best in 08 for Basic Soul Radio. So its time for the album. S.D.T is inspired by 80's soul groups like Loose Ends/Family Stand and early Ron Trent stuff. Have a couple of collabs going on first w/UK underground legend Sarah Winton. I produced some tracks for Ms.Winton from my beat tape called "Soul Beats vol.1". Ms.W is working on her next album so stay tuned.
